A big box showed up this afternoon chock full of the new kicks from Under Armour. They're not shipping until the beginning of May, but I'm excited to give them a try this weekend. Sneakers might not sound very techy, but it sounds like there's a lot of science in these kicks. Hit the jump for first impressions and more pictures.
UA Proto Speed $90
The low-top runner uses an Armorguide Directional Cradle in the back that, even on the first try, feels like it pushes your foot forward. I thought they would be stiffer since the sole has some hard, molded pieces but they felt pretty responsive just walking around. They're not the lightest kicks I've ever held, but they feel really sturdy compared to some of the foam jobs the other guys pass off as running shoes.
UA Proto Power 100
The high-top feels super burly. I feel like I should start doing the 300 work out in order to make the most of all the support. They probably won't be the best choice for the treadmill, but they will be great for deadlifts, squats and probably even basketball. Now if only I wasn't a total , I could probably do some of those exercises.
UA Proto Evade $80
The Armourlastic heel feels a lot more durable than some shock and air shoes. Plus, it has that kick ass name. The strap at the front is a nice touch, too since they're meant for side-to-side motion and that can lead to supter-gross blisters with an ill-fitting shoe. That's gross just to think about. They should support my feet perfectly as I sit at this desk and stare at a computer for 10-hours a day. |
